The Fire Protection Engineering Program has been operating at WPI since 1979. Our goal is to prepare men and women for careers in fire protection engineering practice, advanced levels of specialization, research, and teaching. The first-of-its-kind fire protection engineering doctoral degree has been offered since 1993. WPI's Department of Fire Protection Engineering serves as a crossroads for bringing together talents from many disciplines, such as mechanical, chemical, civil, and electrical engineering, as well as computer science, physics, management, and mathematics, to address fire and life safety issues.

Qualifying Exam Policy for Management Courses

Courses that are classified as management courses by WPI require the additional step of passing a qualifying exam following the completion of the course.  The qualifying exam is above and beyond the normal course requirements.  It is not the final exam and is evaluated on a pass/fail grading system.  This requirement is mandated by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  AACSB is the accrediting body for WPI’s Department of Management.  AACSB accreditation is the highest level of business school accreditation in the world.  Please visit the WPI ~ UTC website for complete details.
