Email & Web Access
Students taking courses through the distance program must maintain an active WPI UNIX account and a WINDOWS account.

You will receive your student ID and a temporary PIN (personal identification number) from the Registrar's Office. You will be instructed to log into the Web Information System and reset your PIN for security. Your student ID number is a random number and your temporary PIN is your birthday (mm/dd/yy). Please contact the Registrar's Office at registrar@wpi.edu or telephone at +1-508-831-5211 to request these numbers if you do not have them.

Creating computer accounts:  Log into the Web Information System (bannerweb.wpi.edu), locate Personal Information, which contains a link to Computer Account Settings. To create your computer accounts, click the Computer Account Settings link and follow the directions. You will be asked to choose a username and password that will create your WPI computer account. The username and password will be used for all of your WPI computer accounts. If you  have any difficulty, please contact helpdesk@wpi.edu.

WPI usernames are kept active from one semester to the next only for those students who are registered for each consecutive semester. New students and students who did not register for a course last semester may obtain a computer account online.

Tuition Payment
Tuition is expected at the start of the course. Please do not wait for invoicing. Several methods of tuition payment are available to you.

Books
Please purchase your text books prior to the start of class from the WPI Bookstore or supplier of your choice. You can determine your required text through the "Ordering Text" portion of the bookstore's website (wpi.bkstore.com) or contact the WPI Bookstore at 508-831-5247 or nmilne@wpi.edu. The bookstore accepts all major credit cards or personal checks. Textbooks and materials in stock will be shipped within 24 hours of your order. For delivery in the continental U.S., you should receive your order within 5 business days. Delivery time for international shipment will depend upon what level of delivery you pay for.

Accessing Course Materials
Distance course materials are delivered through an Internet-based course site. Students need a high-speed Internet connection to adequately receive all materials (256kps). At times, corporate firewalls will not allow you to access all online course materials, and you may find it necessary to view materials from your home computer. Normally streamed video is the primary delivery vehicle in Fire Protection Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and System Dynamics.

Hard Media Availability
All students are expected to be able to access their course material through the Internet. Students in Fire Protection Engineering, System Dynamics ,and Environmental Engineering also have the option of receiving course content on hard media. A per-course shipping & handling (S&H) fee of $150 will be assessed to all students who choose to receive a media shipment of the class lectures. International shipping may be higher; please contact online@wpi.edu to determine fees. This amount must be paid prior to the start of the semester and cannot be put on a deferred payment plan.

If you wish to receive hard media (CD), email online@wpi.edu with your name, course, and shipping address. Since hard media is shipped via UPS, PO boxes are not an acceptable address for shipping purposes.

Library
Access to the WPI's Gordon Library is available to all students taking distance courses. Please visit the library Web site for all access information. If you wish to use services to obtain delivery of books and articles from the library's collection, complete the form Registration and Copyright Declaration for Electronic Requests so that we can send you materials.

Tuition Receipt
When paying by credit card, use the Web Information System. After completing the credit card payment, your tuition and fees will display. Print this page as a receipt. To print a receipt after registration, go to the website above and enter your student number and PIN. Click on Account Summary by Term to get detailed information on your account. To obtain a receipt if paying by methods other than credit card, please contact accounting@wpi.edu with your name and student number to request a receipt.
