Frequenty Asked Questions

1.       How many graduate credits can be transferred into a Corporate and Professional Education certificate program?

You may transfer up to 3 graduate credits from another accredited university for courses.  Each credit transfer request is reviewed by the respective academic department at WPI to verify academic standards and relevance of the course content.

2.      How many graduate credits can be transferred into a Corporate and Professional Education graduate degree program?

You may transfer up to 1/3 of the total academic credit required by the degree program, subject to review as described above.

3.      Can the credits I earn in a WPI certificate program also be used for a graduate degree at WPI? 

All credit earned in a Corporate and Professional Education graduate certificate can be used to fulfill degree requirements for an MS at WPI.  Refer to the specific MS program requirements in the graduate catalog to determine if specific courses are applicable to your degree.  You must be accepted into the degree program before continuing your studies past the certificate.  Also note that you must pass a qualifying exam for each management course before that credit may be applied to an MS or MBA.

4.      Do I need to have an undergraduate degree to take a graduate certificate program? 

Yes, in order to participate in a WPI graduate program, you must have a BS from an accredited university (or equivalent if you have credentials earned outside of the US).

5.      How do I register for a course? 

Read, complete and sign the Corporate and Professional Education registration form and fax in to 508-831-5694 (or scan to email and send to cpe@wpi.edu).  You must print out the form to write in the information - it is not available as an "electronic fill in form".  

6.      How do I know when I am registered for a course?

You will receive a confirmation email from Corporate and Professional Education; you can also view your registration records at http://bannerweb.wpi.edu.

7.      When do I need to pay for a class?

Most programs requirement payment within 10 business days of the first class.  Contact your WPI Program Manager to check specific due dates for your program.  What is the process?  Complete payment instructions can be found on the Corporate and Professional Education registration form or your tuition invoice.  For questions, please call 508-831-5208.

8.      As a student taking a Corporate and Professional Education program, do I have access to WPI activities and facilities?

As a WPI student, you do have access to these areas such as the library, sporting events and fitness center.  Please visit the WPI website for hours and postings.  Most facilities require at WPI student card; please contact administrative services at 508-831-5150 for details about purchasing a student ID card.

9.      How will I be notified about required books?

Corporate and Professional Education will send you an email with the title and publication text information as soon as it becomes available, typically at least two week prior to the start of class.  Books can be purchased at the WPI Bookstore (508-831-5247) or any other source you choose.

10.   Who do I call if I need help filling out my loan paperwork?

Since the loan application process varies with each lender, it is best to contact the lender directly with questions regarding the loan application.  For proper disbursement of approved loans, you must submit the following forms to Corporate and Professional Education:

11.    When do I need to submit my application to WPI?

You must be admitted to a graduate certificate program prior to the completion of the second course. Only two courses taken prior to application to a certificate program may be counted toward the certificate. If you proceed beyond the second course as a non-degree student, then that student may apply to a WPI graduate degree program but will not be eligible to apply to, or receive, a graduate certificate.  Application forms and support materials should be submitted directly to the Office of Graduate Studies and Enrollment.

12.   Do I need to submit GRE or GMAT scores for WPI graduate certificate programs?

This is not needed for a graduate certificate program.  For the MS, please refer to Graduate Admissions application requirements for the specific requirements of each department/program.

13.  Can I audit a WPI class?

You can audit any of our online graduate programs at a 50% fee.  By registering with audit status, you will not receive academic credit or a final grade, and you will not receive one-on-one assistance from the instructor
