Advanced Management Program
WPI's Advanced Management Program features the latest thinking and recent developments in management. This new program ensures that managers develop well beyond a minimum level of professional expertise to demonstrate the highest level of competence required to maintain their company's competitive advantage. This training helps managers and prospective managers develop into tomorrow's leaders.

Session One:
Course #1: Managing Human Performance and Interfaces
Maximize individual performance and motivation through the following topics: optimizing the GBMR (Goals-Behaviors-Metrics-Rewards) system; Maslow's hierarchy; goal-setting; behavior analysis and definition; reasons for corporate silos and their associated problems; and the ways that improperly stated goals contribute to inter-departmental friction.
Course #2: Strategic Thinking
Defines strategy and develops the strategic thinking skills in areas including: sources of competitive advantage; key success factors; customer value proposition; linking strategy & daily business activities; and market forces amid shifting competitive landscapes.
Course #3: Financial Acumen
This session is designed to help participants understand financial measures and levers of a business to evaluate corporate financial performance. Topics include: accounting and finance terminology, income statements; statements of cash flows; and balance sheets.
Course #4: Productivity Management
Focus on maximizing the ratio of outputs to inputs in a production, service, or distribution environment by conveying the current thinking regarding productivity drivers, obstacles, and the impact of technology on productivity.
Course #5: Marketing
This session empowers the manager to understand the role of marketing in an organization. Topics include: the five basic elements of marketing; market segmentation and definition; competitive research; consumer research; relationship marketing; and the role of marketing in product development.
Course #6: Decision Making and Risk Analysis
Enhance your ability to make decisions based on quantitative modeling of risks, costs, and returns. This toolset applies to ventures, product development, sales, investments, and all opportunities where a risk is associated with a reward or where decisions are made in the face of uncertainty.
Course #7: Innovation
Establish an understanding of environments that promote and obstruct innovative thinking. Topics include: human filters, managerial styles, disruptive innovations; and importance of innovation to company growth and survival.
Course #8: Negotiations and Communication
This session introduces and reinforces essential concepts for effective negotiations, such as: negotiating to "win-win" outcomes; understanding your counterpart's needs; walk-away points; the negotiation process; the quid-pro-quo principle; separating the individuals from the issues; integrative vs. distributive solutions; focusing on interests as opposed to positions; the discovery process; and ensuring stakeholder participation.
Course #9: Project Management
Learn the current standards and principles of project management for planning, executing, and controlling projects to ensure successful outcomes on-budget and on-schedule.
Course #10: Managerial Leadership
This session introduces the different styles of leadership and fosters the ability to choose the appropriate style for a given environment or situation. Additional topics include: differences between leading and managing; establishing and communicating a shared vision; developing yourself and your employees; and leading change.
